Welcome to Human Milk

It began in 2014 with one struggling, isolated mother, who found out a few incredible facts about her own milk and was puzzled and angry that she had never heard any of it before.

So she set out to tell everyone just how incredible women's bodies and breastmilk are, in the hope that new mothers around the world will have an easier time, equipped with more knowledge, more support, and more community.

With a background in music and film, she pulled in every favour she had, and the 'Human Milk Tailor-Made for Tiny Humans' advert was born. It went viral, and everything went nuts.

Human Milk exists because we know first-hand that millions of women are having to fend for themselves every day in their transition to motherhood, and many of us doubt our own instincts in the everyday noise of well-meaning advice, and less well-meaning advertising.

When a baby is born, so is a mother. We’re here for them.

11 years on, we're harnessing the influence of Fashion, Media, Art and Pop Culture to deliver products, knowledge and community that connect, embolden and support mothers all over the world.

Using the science of breastmilk, we're affirming that our own instincts around things like holding and feeding our babies around the clock, co-sleeping, or breastfeeding for years beyond our cultural norms, are sound, healthy, vital.

Even just knowing that you're not the only one thinking or experiencing something a certain way, can be enough to change the whole course of your journey.

Our mission is to reaffirm women's instincts, save lives and change the culture around the physical and mental health of mothers and next generations around the globe, leaving a cleaner planet to our children in the process.

This includes being ruthlessly responsible in our sourcing and production choices. 80% of fashion factory workers are women. They often work in dire conditions. We refuse to participate in the exploitation of any human being. Profits from every Human Milk purchase fuel our mission.

So thank you, and welcome to the Team.

Where does your money go?

We're working on:

  • Shooting new adverts for breastmilk and motherhood, and placing them on TV, billboards etc.
  • Continuing to offer free resources on the science of breastmilk, currently used in 35 countries.
  • Growing our brand so that we can be fully financially sustainable and independent, in order to achieve our mission.

And imagine Human Milk stores worldwide, where as well as buying what they need, women could spend time together on big comfy sofas, 7 days a week, with good food and drinks, trained breastfeeding counsellors at hand, events, workshops, maybe even a podcast studio where everyone's story can be recorded and shared, to connect and help mothers everywhere.

We are proud winners of a People, Environment, Achievement Award alongside Sir David Attenborough and Triodos Bank.

"The PEA Awards is the UK’s leading sustainability and climate awards, honouring the individuals and teams behind the products, services and businesses that are changing the face of our planet."

Human Milk was founded as a heist by parents, for parents.

Parents everywhere, every day, are sold stuff they don't need. Most of us reach parenthood without a clue, and have lost touch with nature, both our own and our Earth’s.

This was consciously crafted. We can - and must - ReCraft.

Every woman needs to know how brilliant she is, that she holds a key. A woman's body and intuition are foundational forces on which humanity is entirely dependent.

Fathers and partners need to know it too, and understand their vital supportive and protective role around a breastfeeding mother and baby.

The eco-system around new parents needs this knoweldge this too. And that's, well, pretty much everyone.

We've been investing our many decades of experience in fashion, film, design, photography, music, Art, marketing and business since 2014 to ReCraft the norms, for the sake of our children, of mothers and fathers, and future generations everywhere.

It’s never about convincing a woman to breastfeed if she doesn’t want to. We're not here to tell anyone what to do. It’s about access to information, respect for mothers’ intuition, and support; making sure that those who do want to, can. It’s also about donor milk becoming the first option for women who cannot breastfeed. We understand the forces at play here.

Human milk isn’t just a brand - it’s a global cultural movement with ripple effects that extend into physical and mental health, sustainability, equality - both between the sexes and different regions of the world - policy making etc... our very understanding of what it is to be human.

Organisations, governmental departments and individuals use our multi-media resources around the world, to inspire and activate change.

This is possible. But for that shift to happen, we have to address the common belief that breastfeeding is just a lifestyle choice that doesn't matter either way.

Let's reconnect the dots. We are Nature.

Let's all witness how incredible women's bodies are and the value of the mothering work we do. After all, without it, there is no outside world.
